Music Video

For a plusweek, where we can work on our own projects at the academy, I decided to work together with a musician and make a music video. I had never done something like this before, so it would make for a fun challenge as well as it would help me learn more techniques. The song was created for a Dungeons and Dragons game that both the musician and I are part of.

Animatic

I had already worked on this idea when I first heard the song. However due to all the assignments at the academy, I couldn't make any time to work on this project. Months after my first few sketches a lot had changed, but I could still use my old work to see how the flow would be as an animatic.

Character design

Luckily the feedback was positive and I could continue. I wanted to make it feel like you were looking into diorama that one would have made with paper. So the characters also became a lot less detailed. As mentioned before, all these characters were already set in stone, this meant for me that it was both easier as more difficult. Especially with the two characters that did not yet have a finalised character art yet.

I couldn't forget our Dungeonmaster either. (He leads the game and it's story)

Backgrounds

For the backgrounds, I wanted to make sure they kept the same feeling as the characters. Simple but recognisable.

I worked on this project in Aftereffects and Procreate. I also got the feedback once I was almost finished to add more moving details in. To make the animation feel more alive. This indeed helped a lot for the animation. Which meant I had only one thing left to do. The thumbnail.
